2006 Detroit Tigers Preview

2005 Overview:

About the only good news for Detroit Tigers fans in 2005 occurred at the end of the season. In October it was announced that Jim Leyland was coming out of retirement and had accepted the Tigers managerial job. Leyland is looking to help change the teams fortunes for 2006 and beyond but he will have his work cut out for him. The Tigers managed to win only 71 total games in 2005 posting a lackluster 71-91 record. Yet somehow the Motown offense was able to score a total of 723 runs which was only 18 fewer then the World Series Champion Chicago White Sox. Of course it didnt help matters that the Tigers also allowed a total of 787 runs – mostly due to an inconsistent and underperforming pitching staff.

The 2005 offense was led primarily by outfielder Craig Monroe (.277 20 89), and DH Dmitri Young (.271 21 72). Rookie 1st baseman Chris Shelton (.299 18 59) also provided some much needed offensive spark with veterans Ivan Rodriguez (.276 14 50) and Rondell White (.313 12 53) posting respectable numbers. The rest of the 2005 offensive production was supplied by 3rd baseman Brandon Inge (.261 16

The Law and Order Approach

Its almost a given that at any time in the United States and around the world some form of Law and Order can be seen on television. The shows creators have done a tremendous job of franchising this brand. So what can we, as entrepreneurs and small business owners, learn from this example? Once we establish ourselves in the marketplace for our first line of business, we should not be afraid of branching out.

Just look at the Law and Order model. The creators waited until they were a mainstay in viewers weekly television fix. Once they were established they brought out SVU. Then of course came Criminal Intent, the now defunct Trial By Jury and the latest installment Conviction.

Lets see how this could apply in the real world. Ill use my business as an example because Im very familiar with it! My main focus is on my virtual assistant business. I have spent a lot of time promoting it, tweaking my website, writing articles such as this one, joining virtual assistant associations and hanging out in various small business forums. Now, I have had very excellent results and seen nice profits and growth.

However, I am now

Problem Solving With Reality Therapy

Reality Therapy is a counseling method that was developed by Dr. William Glasser in 1965. However, it is so much more than a counseling technique. Reality Therapy is a problem solving method that works well with people who are experiencing problems they want help solving, as well as those who are having problems and appear to not want any assistance. Reality Therapy also provides an excellent model for helping individuals solve their own problems objectively and serves as the ideal questioning series during coaching sessions.

The underlying key to Reality Therapy is the relationship that is established with the person who needs the help. This is most critical when you are attempting to help someone who doesnt really want your help, such as a non-voluntary client, a resistant student or your sometimes even your own child. Without a positive relationship, you have no influence. To your helpee, you sound similar to the way adults sound in the Peanuts cartoons, Whaa, wha, whaa, whaa, whaa. Your helpee doesnt hear you without the relationship. Gary Zucov says, Relationship is the root of all influence. This is certainly true. You can have all the knowledge in the world but if the

Women And Horses A Powerful Synergy

Horseback riding is a sport at which women excel. One can try to explain their success because they are lighter than men and have obvious anatomical advantages for the saddle. This is certainly not everything. After 70 years of riding and close association with riders, I am convinced that the most important reason for feminine preeminence in the sport is their ability to relate to horses. It is partly a matter of sensitivity and patience. It is also a matter of willingness to trust in a real partnership where the whole is far more powerful than the sum of the parts.

Men are often too preoccupied by the need to show their macho strength in dominating a horse and are less willing to seek a harmonious relationship. They often seem to feel they must overpower a horse and make it totally subservient to their will. Many of them would be pleased if a horse reacted in the same insensate way as an automobile to a turn of the wheel, a foot on the brake or a push on the accelerator. Some people are just more at ease with machines which will always obey even suicidal commands unquestioningly.

A Million Bucks In Scholarships – I’m Not Kidding!

Mention a million dollars in scholarships as few as ten years ago, and most university officials and everybody else would have laughed in your face. It won’t happen today. There are two reasons why. College scholarship opportunities have grown tremendously and the cost of an ubdergraduate education continues to go up and up with no relief in sight. The value of a four-year military academy degree is now at $323,450. Who could afford that? Thankfully, West Point, Annapolis and the Air Force Academy are free to the students. That’s one giant government scholarship. Can a half-million dollar tuition be far behind?

Tuition and fees for a handful of private universities and colleges already top a quarter million, and many more are well over a hundred and fifty big ones.

A helpless father called for help because his sons first year tuition, majoring in engineering, would be almost $40,000. One year! Scary? You bet! Another dad told me that his son would graduate next year owing $51,761.

Will the total college bill reach a million dollars? Not likely. But with the birth of the Internet, it is just a matter of time until someone takes up the hallenge

What Causes Carpal Tunnel?

A common factor in developing carpal tunnel symptoms is increased hand use or activity.

While repetitive activities are often blamed for the development of Carpal Tunnel, the correlation is often unclear. Physiology and family history may have a significant role in individual’s susceptibility.

Many cases of carpal tunnel syndrome are provoked by repetitive grasping and manipulating activities. The exposure can be cumulative. Activities may be work- related or related to other activities (i.e. home improvement chores.)

Symptoms are commonly exacerbated by forceful and repetitive use of the hand and wrists in industrial occupations, including jack hammer operators, meat packers, computer users and musicians. The condition has been documented for decades, but in recent 10 to 20 years has become more prevalent, probably due to better public awareness and earlier diagnosis.

There are a number of causes of carpal tunnel syndrome. They can be either traumatic, or non-traumatic.

Work related exposure is a common contributor to of carpal tunnel syndrome. In the U.S., for instance, carpal tunnel syndrome is the biggest single contributing factor to lost time at work. Carpal tunnel syndrome results in billions of dollars of workers compensation claims every year.

However, recent studies and peer review

IT Service Agreements: When To Offer Them

Right after emergency service calls is a good time to offer IT service agreements. Youve just saved the day and youre at the high point.

Customers have to like, know, and trust you. After an emergency, they love you! They love you because you saved the day; they now know you of course because you just spent the last 16 hours working non-stop to solve this problem; and of course they trust you because you delivered on what you said you could do.

Once you fix an emergency, theyre very receptive to talking about how to prevent this kind of panic from happening in the future. Then you can give them a proposal that will include the ongoing maintenance by your company in the form of IT service agreements. So thats a great time to ask for the service contract.
